Additional Information

Tips is a beautiful and sweet 2006, 16.1h unraced Thoroughbred mare seeking a home as a companion. Due to a foaling dystocia in 2021 that caused hind end weakness, Tips is unable to be ridden or bred, and is looking for a home to live out her days as a companion. Her owner is trying to find her a home due to having to focus on her education and not having adequate time to spend with her.

Tips loves attention and would do great with someone just wanting to spoil and love on her. She absolutely soaks up any attention given to her (especially if you find her itchy spot!) and her sweet temperament is reflected in her kind eye. Even though Tips can’t be ridden, she is young and sound enough that she’d probably make an excellent horse to work with on the ground, such as doing liberty work or trick training, or to go out on lead-line walks on the trail. This would be a great way to keep her mind busy and give her a job for many years to come.

Tips has been managed with front shoes. Her owner recently tried pulling her shoes, but she came up sore and the shoes were reapplied. That being said, she may be able to transition her over to barefoot with time and careful management. Tips is a moderate keeper and does tend to require a bit more in the way of feed and blanketing in the winter time to maintain her condition. Her owner has been muzzling her when turned out on pasture as a preventative measure. She became laminitic soon after foaling, and was tested for Lyme and Cushing’s, both of which were negative. So Tips may be able to go without a muzzle with careful monitoring.

Tips has been kept in a mixed herd consisting of mares and geldings, young and old, horses and ponies, with no issues at all. She tends to fall lower on the totem pole within the herd. Tips does get anxious if taken away from her friends, but is very well behaved otherwise. She could live out, but has been managed most of her life with half-day turnout. Tips behaves for the vet and farrier, baths, blanketing, ties and loads. She is UTD on everything, but is coming due for a dental.

If you feel you could give Tips the home she deserves, inquire about her soon!
