Additional Information

Rocky is a bombproof 2002, 15.2hh Paint Gelding. This guy is amazing!!!!! He is a super easy-going chap for any ability level. Polite, gentle and unflappable. He is kind, honest and a perfect match for a novice rider or handler. He has a Western and lesson background. Rocky is looking for an individual or family who will love him spending quality time grooming, riding on leisurely trails, wandering around the farm or in the ring. His owner would like to avoid lesson programs at this stage of Rocky’s career.

Rocky is a complete superstar for grooming, tacking and riding. He has been enjoyed as a guest horse, husband horse, former lesson horse, and more recently being loved and ridden by a little girl who has learnt to ride on him.

He is beyond willing and even lowers his head for bridling. We saw him surrounded by his little girls and farm family while being caught, and then prepped for being ridden.

Rocky was diagnosed with upper/high ringbone some years ago in his right front. This is being managed incredibly well with rocker shoes and routine joint shots. He was purchased 5 yrs ago by his current owner and did come with this diagnoses. He is remaining sound for light to medium work and should be expected to continue on with his current plan of action. His owner had x-rays taken again in Spring 2021 showing that there has been little to no progression in this usually advancing condition. X-rays are available via current owner for screened and approved applicants. His current home is quite hilly. This presented some stiffness in his hind end and then ‘carefulness’ when navigating downhill. Flatter terrains will be more desirable for Rocky to improve longevity and continued comfort.

Under saddle he is worth his weight in gold. He sweetly takes his little novice rider independently around the field at the walk, trot and canter. She rides him a couple times a week in exchange for her and her Mom helping to care for him. He’s the perfect horse for someone to learn on and has 3 comfy gaits. We saw an even tinier rider have a wander around on him for the first time off of the lead line. Of course, he was the most perfect gentleman. He has a lovely brightness to him under saddle and you can tell that he enjoys his job. Rocky has lovely balance of Whoa and Go. It was noted that he prefers to ride in company but will lead or follow. He was super however when being ridden alone in the field for his assessment – of course all of his human fans were there too so he was technically not really alone.

Rocky lives in a small herd of two minis and goats. He has access to shelter and is out 24/7 mostly. He is happy with mares and geldings, and tends to me more of a leader and head of the herd. Please note that he used to have a lovely tail. It seems that his goat heartmates took quite a fancy to his tail and nibbled the length of it off!!! Don’t you just LOVE goats?!?!?

Rocky is up to date with his Spring 2021 shots and Coggins. He is on a great shoeing cycle and has had his teeth floated routinely. His owner shared that he is nervous of the dentist so has had to be sedated in the past for visits. His current owner will consider out of state home for the right person.
