*URGENT PLACEMENT NEEDED*
Red is a super sweet 1999, 15.3h Standardbred gelding seeking a home where he can live out his golden years as a companion to any equine. A prior trail horse, Red has been the trusty steed of the barn, carting around beginner riders in a calm and steady manner. Age has now caught up to him and, while he may be good for an occasional lead line pony ride with a small child, he’d be best suited for an easy retirement life.
Red can be turned out with mares or geldings, and is even occasionally housed next to a stallion, with no issues. The barn had some noise and activity when we visited, with three dogs running all around us, and he didn’t bat an eye. He is good for the vet and farrier, ties, bathes, and blankets. He is currently managed in a stall with 1/2-day turnout (out during the day in winter, out overnight during summer). Though he is used to being stalled, he would probably do fine with full turnout as well. He has maintained his weight on grass/hay and a handful of feed twice a day. To address his stiffness, Red does receive daily Equioxx. Red is overdue for a trim, but his feet appear to be very strong, with minimal flaring and zero chipping. So they should come around fine with just one trim. He is also overdue for a dental, but he isn’t currently having any trouble chewing, and should do well with one float and normal maintenance thereafter. He is updated on all shots, deworming and Coggins. He is blanketed through the winter and his owner is willing to send all of his blankets with him to his new home.
