If you’re looking for a safe, easy pleasure/trail horse, Sissy may be the one for you!
Par Passers Little Sissy (aka “Sissy”) is a 1998, 15.2h registered Quarter Horse mare seeking a new home to live out her days due to her owner moving out of state. In the almost 20 years that her owner has had her, Sissy has been used for her and her 2 daughters to ride English pleasure, dressage and trails. Now in her golden years, Sissy would love to find a home with someone wanting to enjoy the slower, more relaxed pace of horse ownership.
Sissy’s gentle, calm demeanor and excellent ground manners make her an great horse for a more beginner handler. We imagine her being a wonderful family horse for kids to enjoy grooming and loving on her. We observed her getting caught in the field and brought in, away from her herd mate, without any issues. She stood quietly in the cross-ties to be groomed and tacked up. She was well-behaved for everything and really seemed to enjoy the attention.
Sissy is the type who can go a while between rides and still be the same horse when you get back on. It had been 3 weeks since she was last ridden when we observed her under saddle, yet she was very level-headed and calm. She stood quietly for mounting. We observed her at the walk/trot, but did not get to see her at the canter due to slick footing. Her rider did tell us that she has a very comfortable, rocking horse canter. She was responsive to her rider’s aids and even tried to go on the bit, despite being a little rusty. Her owner tells us that she can sometimes “take advantage” of more beginner riders by going into the center of the ring and standing if she knows they won’t correct her. So she likes to be lazy and is definitely more whoa than go! Sissy would make a wonderful horse for someone wanting a steady, calm pleasure/trail horse and, due to her age, would do best with lighter riding in the form of walk, trot and some canter.
Over the past couple of years, Sissy has had some trouble tolerating the heat and humidity in the summertime. So her owner would like her to go to a home where she can come in out of the heat as needed. She may need clipping in the summer to make things a little easier for her.
Sissy is UTD on farrier, deworming and Rabies. She is due for a dental and her owner is willing to pull an updated Coggins prior to her leaving. She stands well for the vet and farrier. She’s a fairly easy-keeper for her age and is barefoot. She’s been turned out with mares and geldings, and tends to fall to the middle or bottom of the totem pole within the herd. Sissy was recently diagnosed with Cushing’s and is being treated with Pergolide.
Sissy is truly a special mare and is destined to make someone very happy. We have a feeling Sissy won’t take long to find a new home, so hurry up and inquire about her!
*Sissy’s owner would like to place her within a 3-hour radius of Calvert County, Maryland.*
