Chicocheese, aka Chico, is a handsome and intelligent 2002 Chincoteague Pony gelding, possibly by the famed stallion, Surfer Dude. Chico was born in May 2002, bought at the Chincoteague Wild Pony Auction, and came to live at his current home in the fall of 2002. His owners spent a great amount of time getting him used to being handled, but due to their age they are now seeking a new home for him where he can be consistently worked with and given a job. Chico stands well for grooming and picking out his feet. He has been kept alone since he came to live with his current owners, so it is unknown how he would be with other horses. He is a very easy-keeper and is doing well on just hay over the winter and grass (in moderation) over the warmer months. Chico is a very smart boy and does need work on ground manners and respect. So he would do best with an advanced handler who can instill those qualities into him and give him something to think about. Though he has accepted a rider on his back, it has been many years and he will most likely need to be restarted. We observed him being lunged by his owner and he was sound, despite the uneven and frozen ground. Chico even knows a trick and can “shake” both front hooves! This pony would do best with an advanced handler and rider, at least until he receives the training he needs. He’s ready to start his new career, so check him out today!
